CROSSING A HILL

Crossing a Hill

When crossing a hill, there is a safe way to proceed. If you come to a hill and you wish to cross it proceed as follows:

  • You should choose a riding position that will allow you to easily and comfortably shift your weight towards the slope of the hill. The kneeling position is best- be sure to kneel with your downhill leg.
  • Always keep your bodyweight leaning towards the uphill direction.
  • Hard-packed snow may cause your snowmobile to slide- always try to cross on snow that is more loosely packed if possible.

Safety Tip! If you lose control of your snowmobile while crossing, climbing or descending a hill and it begins to roll you should jump off immediately on the uphill side. Do not let the snowmobile roll over top of you!
